With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, many community support organisations have had to adapt their programs to an online forum.
TechConnects is supporting a number of Melbourne based not-for-profit programs by providing recipients with donated devices enabling them to take part in crucial onilne support programs.
We are currently calling for donations for recipients of Ucan2 presented by Foundation House.
FOUNDATION HOUSE’S UCAN2 PROGRAM
Foundation House /The Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture, supports the wellbeing and human rights of people from refugee backgrounds who have experienced torture or other traumatic events by offering a range of support services, including individual counselling and psychosocial group programs.
ABOUT THE RECIPIENTS
The recipients of the TechConnects devices will be newly arrived young people of refugee backgrounds participating in one of seven UCan2 Programs.
Many have only been in Australia for 6-8 months, and, having arrived in their new home at a time of a global pandemic, are struggling to make connections and settle effectively in Melbourne. Most of the participants of UCan2 are using their mobile phones to access the online program, some with cracked screens and failing batteries and some with devices temporarily borrowed from family members.
Having their own personal device could revolutionise life for these young people as they endeavour to create new lives for themselves in Australia.
Help us to achieve our goal of providing 13 donated iPads to participants of Foundation House’s Ucan2 program, an education and support program that aims to support the social inclusion of young people from refugee backgrounds.
